Do you want to build a fire engine?

Inspired by our visit to the fire station last month, the Wrens have been busy creating their own fire engine models:

We used lots of skills making them!

Watch out for photos of our finished work coming soon!

Off to the Fire Station!

Today the Wrens and Year 1 Robins travelled by coach to Thetford. Our first stop of the day was at the fire station.

What did we learn about when watching this film? Have you made a fire plan yet?

Who can dress as a firefighter the quickest?!

Jessica and Rex are showing us how to STOP, DROP AND ROLL!

We found out lots about the fire engine ...

...and all had a turn at squirting the hose!

The firefighters showed us where they get the water from:

Do you know where the nearest hydrant to your house is? Look for the yellow 'H' sign.

The hose that fills the fire engine is very large!

What was your favourite part of our visit to the fire station?

A trip to the fire station

Yesterday the Wrens and Year 1 Robins went for a tour around East Harling Fire Station.

Firefighters Paul and Ray showed us around.

Before we could go any further, we had a talk about how to keep ourselves safe:

Ben spotted a photograph in the fire station. Paul told us it was a photo of one of the biggest fires that there had ever been in Norfolk:

This is where the hoses are kept on the fire engine:

The jaws of life:

The firefighters have to wear these cylinders on their backs if they go inside a building that is on fire. They carry oxygen so that the firefighters can breathe:

We got to sit in the back of the fire engine. The steps were very high up!

We climbed down safely just like the firefighters have to:

Off drove the fire engine. This time it was just going into the station yard so we could take a closer look...

...and have a go at squirting the hose!

Did we do a good job of cleaning your car Mrs Baker?!

Next we heard the loud siren and saw the lights flash!

Back inside the fire station we got to take a closer look at the clothes the firefighters wear:

Who is hiding under there?

A very special thank you to Paul and Ray for making our trip to the fire station such fun.  Thank you also to all the adults who transported us there!
