'Budding' Scientists!

Today our challenge was to look a little more closely at flowering plants, so we put on our 'lab coats' and got stuck in!

We were allowed to take the plants out of their pots to examine the roots. There were lots of them! Can you remember why plants have roots?

Each part of the plant was under close inspection with the help of some magnifying glasses!

We recorded some useful words on the white board ready to help us with our labelling:

Careful drawings were made:

Can you see the little creature hiding in the roots of this plant?
Callum thought it might be a maggot!

We used a ruler to add the labels once we had finished our drawings:

See if you can remember all the important jobs that each part of the plant does.
Can you tell someone at home?
